The Company
Suomen Lantakaasu is a joint venture of energy company St1 and food company Valio.
St1 is a Nordic energy group, whose vision is to be the leading producer and seller of CO2-aware energy. Biogas plays an important role in St1’s energy vision.
Valio is a leading Finnish food company, with export to around 50 countries around the world. Biogas production is an important part of Valio’s goal to cut milk’s carbon footprint to zero by 2035.
Together towards 1 TWh of manure-based biogas
Together we have set an ambitious goal to develop and build manure-based liquified biogas (LBG) production in industrial scale for the first time in Finland. We target 1 TWh of LBG production by 2030. This corresponds to roughly 5-7 industrial central liquefaction plants. By doing this, we create far-reaching positive climate impacts.
The biogas potential lays in areas with intensive animal and biomass production. To enable large feedstock basis, our production is based on a hybrid production concept.
The hybrid production means that in connection of each central liquefaction plant we also build smaller satellite plants. The satellite plants produce compressed biogas (CBG) that is then transported to liquefaction in the central plant .
